Thanks to a reader of #Drag I can correct a some facts about a story I wrote. The London Evening Standard wrote that Privates on Parade will be the first time Simon Russell Beale drags up, but he has done so at least once before. In the Royal Ballet’s production of Alice in Wonderland in 2011 Beale plays the Duchess in full wig, make up and dress. He even does a bit of dancing and was supposedly very light on his feet.
I would like to correct my mistake, and also say it for exact reasons like this that we need press regulation. Readers need have full confidence in the fact that Britain’s Greatest Actor has put on a dress and wig more than just once!
